Burger King 10K

Yesterday I went to the BK10K with my brother and sister in law. I am in no real shape to attempt to run a 10K, so we walked it. There were so many people there! About a month ago, I had to go to this staff development day for work. At one of the intersections there were these people giving away free shirts. I was given one and laughed. It's one of those shirts that say I heart _______. Well, the blank was filled in by a picture of a Whopper. It was a BK promo shirt. This was the shirt I wore to the race and honestly, I didn't see anyone else there with this shirt. I'm sooooo unique! The funny thing is that I don't eat red meat. I gave it up about 4 years ago :)

Anyway, I'm always observing people and there were definitely some characters there. Let me start at the beginning. We arrived at a good early time, found our spot and I took a seat on the curb. When I look up there's this woman's ass in front of me. She's talking to her friend and moving side to side as if to warm up. Fine...however, this woman was wearing the tightest exercise pants she could find. Whatever, wear what you want but atleast wear the appropriate underwear for the activity. She clearly didn't want underwear lines, so I'm guessing she had a g-strig on if that. This all happened in a matter of seconds. All I knew is that I had some heavier woman's giggly ass in front of me and I stood up as fast as I could. I don't care what kind of fashion statement you want to make with your workout clothes. But if you're going to be running, the buttocks needs support just like the girls on top. Wear full coverage underwear :)

During the race, when people were already returning we saw a few blog worthy individuals. First we saw a man looked like he stepped off a Tom Hanks movie...Cast Away or Forest Gump. The man had long-wild hair with a full on beard to compliment it. It was all bouncy (he must have been dying of heat). If that wasn't enough, the dude was running in flip flops! FLIP FLOPS!!! Wow.

The second character I saw was more subdued, but still went to some lengths to stand out in the sea of people. He wore his statement on his chest...literally. This man was clearly a quite hairy individual. Definitely someone who could rival any other in a sweater vest competition. So, he took this chest hair and molded it into a symbol. The dude shaved, waxed, naired...whatever...his hair into the shape of a heart. From the top of his pecks down to his belly button he created a hair heart. Uhm....ok then!

It was definitely an interesting afternoon.

I WAS THERE, I SAW THE DUDES YOU DESCRIBE. BUT MINE WAS THE RAREST CASE. MY EX HUSBAND AND I GET ALONG VERY GOOD AS FRIENDS AND HE WANTED ME TO COME WITH HIM TO THIS BK 10K RACE. HE WALKS EVERY 5K OR 10K HE ENCOUNTERS, BUT I NEVER WAS IN ANY RACE EVER. I SUPPOSED THAT I WAS GOING TO BE THERE JUST IN CASE HE FAINTED (HE HAS DIABETES, HIGH BLODD PRESSURE, OBESITY, SLEEP APNEA, HIGH CHOLESTEROL, DAMAGED BACK, ETC., ETC.). HIS DOCTOR RECOMENDED HIM TO TAKE LONG WALKS, SO HE LOVES MOSCOSO, BK 10K, AMERICAN, ETC. I WANTED TO WAIT FOR HIM AT THE STARTING PLACE, BUT THE RUNNERS AND WALKERS WERE NOT GOING TO RETURN BACK TO THE START. THEN I WANTED TO WAIT FOR HIM AT THE FINISH LINE, BUT I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO GET THERE. SO WHAT DID MY EX SUGGEST? BINGO! HE ASKED ME TO WALK WITH HIM! I WAS THE ONE WALKER DRESSED WITH SHOES AND CLOTHES LIKE SOME KIND OF OFFICE CLERK, AND I WON'T MENTION THE SIZE AND WEIGHT OF MY SHOULDER PURSE. WE MADE THE 5K IN 55 MINUTES AND MY FACE STILL HURTS OUT OF EMBARRASSMENT. BUT I LOVE MY BK MEDAL AND I ENJOYED EVERYTHING VERY MUCH, MOSTLY THE FAMILIAR ENVIRONMENT, THE PRIDE OF BEING A WOMAN, THE ACHIEVEMENT OF MY FIRST-CASUAL-5K-DRESSED-NON-SPORTY WALK, MEETING NEW PEOPLE, AND ALSO TO FIND SOME NEIGHBORS FROM MY BARRIO SHOUTING "HEY". PLUS THE FINE WEATHER AND THE BEAUTY OF MY ISLAND, IT WAS GREAT.
